Before I built a wall I'd ask to know

Before I built a wall I'd ask to know

Would be demigods, seeking the worship of men
Have always used fear to build walls
Walls of the heart between you and I, us and them
The great spiritual teachers of history
Have always sought to tear down these wall
Building bridges of the heart instead

Choose you this day
Whether you shall build walls of separation, fear, and loneliness
Or bridges of courageous vulnerability
The openness of risking your heart’s belonging
To the Tree of Life itself
Where no life is excluded from kin
Where scarcity is a state of mind
And abundance a state of heart
