Sometimes You Lose a Friend

Sometimes you lose a friend
they walk off into the night
on you the last goodbye
the one you carry in your heart
broken open in love
for a man of wild beauty
a spirit for me on this night
I will carry to my grave
as a heart within my heart.

For David Milton Salmon
1936-2010

And how will you live what the poet Mary Oliver calls “your one wild and precious life?”
